Low Risk Driving

Defensive driving courses and the Low Risk alternative

We don’t run defensive driving courses. Our one-day Low Risk Driving Course takes a different approach, for organisations whose people drive as part of their work, anywhere in Australia, New Zealand or the Pacific Islands.

What defensive driving courses usually involve

Defensive driving courses commonly teach vehicle-handling and emergency-response techniques, often on a skid pan or driving range.

What Low Risk Driving focuses on

Low Risk Driving takes a different approach, featuring values clarification and other motivational factors. It gently challenges two common ways of thinking, “It wasn’t my fault” and “It’s not going to happen to me”, and helps experienced drivers discover how thinking like this can significantly reduce cautious driving behaviour.

Based on the Low Risk Driving approach in the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority’s Framework for Driver Education (1997).

Drivers who have done a defensive course before

The one-day Low Risk Driving Course suits drivers who have completed defensive or advanced driving courses.

The half-day refresher is for drivers who have completed the full Low Risk Driving Course, ideally 18 months to two years earlier. A previous defensive or advanced driving course alone does not qualify.

How onsite training works

Jeremy prepares a written, fixed-price quote for your location. After payment has been received, the course is confirmed in writing. Then the programme is delivered at your workplace on the agreed days.

A large part of the day involves reflection and group work in the classroom. There are two practical driving components where participants drive in real traffic conditions near to the workplace or training venue.

Your organisation provides:

  • A suitable training space
  • Suitable vehicles for practical training
  • Equipment and catering as agreed
